Definitions of the Week*

Below you will see the word to be defined in English, the closest corresponding word in Greek ( which the New Testament was written in), and then the meaning (s) from Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible, by James Strong, 2009, or online.

Accuser: “kategoreo”- “ object”; “ to accuse- before a judge; to make an accusation”; “ to accuse… of an extra-judicial accusation”

[ In other words, to make a claim against someone- in this case, a Christian- in an unjust, or out-of-bounds, way. This what Satan does concerning born-again Christians. He makes either altogether false claims about them; or he attacks their character, overall, over a mistake, or 1 or 2 things that they are wrong about, some area that they have not grown in as a Christian, etc.].

Condemnation: “katakrima”- “ A damnatory sentence”; “ An adverse sentence ( the verdict).”

Dominion: “ kyneuo”- “ … exercise lordship over”; “ to be lord of, to rule…” [ It pertains to “ things and forces”[… “ to exercise influence upon, to have power over”

Reprove: “ elegcho”- “ … rebuke, convince, tell ( one’s) fault, convict”; “ to… correct”; “ to admonish”; “… to call to account”

Points to Remember:

-God sees Christians as having been made free from the power or dominion /domination of sin over them by the blood of Jesus and His resurrection after 3 days in the grave.

-We, the church, walk free from sin, guilt, and condemnation by seeing ourselves as God does, and proclaiming ourselves to be just that- washed in the blood of Jesus from our sins ,and as new, free people through Christ.

-Gentle persuasion/conviction, and promptings of the Holy Spirit concerning our thoughts and actions come from God; while false or damning accusations , fear, and/or condemnation come from Satan, the “Accuser of the Brethren”.

[ The Word of God asks the question, “ Who shall lay anything to the charge of God’s elect?”, the point being that no person, nor demonic force/spirit from Hell can, wrongly ( implied), make unfounded or unfair accusations against God’s people, and those accusations be effective or work against them- See Romans 8:33-39; Psalm 27; Psalm 91 Isaiah 54:17].
